A coming out guide for LGBTQI+ young people

A guide has been written by LGBTQI+ young people, who have drawn on their own personal experiences to make the process of coming out easier for others.

This resource belongs to the resource hub for classroom and wellbeing support.

This detailed resource is specifically aimed at young people who are in the process of ‘coming out’ as LGBTQI+ to their wider community.

By drawing on personal experiences, the young people who helped to develop this guide aim to make the process of coming out as lesbian, gay or bisexual easier for others. 

This guidance explores many different aspects around the coming out process, including:

  • the logistics of coming out (when, where, etc)
  • how to respond to common questions
  • coming out to friends, family, school, and more
  • rights and legislation

Using this resource

This resource is designed for:

  • use by individual young people
  • use by young people aged 11 and up
