This lesson from Oxfam supports pupils to understand the unequal impacts of climate change through real-life case studies. Pupils are introduced to people and communities from around the world, exploring how their lives are being affected by the climate emergency and the actions they are taking to adapt or respond.
This is Session 5 of Oxfam’s Human Impact of Climate Change series, which supports teaching about climate justice across different curriculum areas including citizenship, English, geography and PSHE.
The lesson plan is supported by a teacher guide, which includes a resource outline, curriculum links and background information about climate justice. A slideshow is also provided to accompany the classroom activities.
By taking part in the lesson, pupils will:
- develop empathy for people experiencing the effects of climate change
- explore different ways climate change is influencing lives and communities across the world
- learn about positive actions communities are taking, from local solutions to global responses.
