Coercive control lesson plan

This lesson from BBC Teach is designed for use with students over 15, and explores the topic of coercive control and controlling relationships.

Coercive control is a pattern of behaviour by an abuser to harm, punish or frighten their victim.

In this lesson, students will watch a drama about a relationship between two young people, split into five parts. As the drama progresses, the characters' behaviour changes, and students will be asked to analyse each part, sharing their thoughts.

  • use with young people aged 15 and up
  • use with whole classes

Progression step 5: I can take steps to avoid conflict and to remove myself from unsafe relationships. I can draw on support systems for myself and others when needed.
