Talk Relationships: safer online relationships

Secondary

A PSHE lesson resource that helps students aged 12 to 14 explore how to stay safe online and know where to go for help, particularly when forming relationships through social media and gaming platforms.

About this resource

This lesson from the NSPCC, developed in partnership with the PSHE Association, supports students aged 12 to 14 to explore the benefits, challenges and risks of using social media, particularly when developing relationships online or through gaming platforms. It encourages students to think about how to stay safe and protect their personal information when interacting online.

It forms part of the Talk Relationships series, which helps schools and colleges to deliver inclusive, age-appropriate relationships and sex education.

By taking part in this lesson, students will:

  • evaluate the benefits, challenges and risks involved in using social media
  • identify when online relationship behaviours may involve risk and consider ways to manage these situations
  • learn how to seek help if they are concerned about something that happens online
