Anti-racism and mental health in schools e-learning
A free e-learning designed to improve school and college staff’s understanding of the impact of racism on mental health.
Black and racially minoritised young people can experience racism in many areas of their lives - including at school. Experiencing racism can have significant mental health consequences for young people.
This resource covers practical strategies for tackling racism in schools, and how to introduce a whole-school approach to anti-racism and mental health.
The course is designed for staff to complete at their own pace but is estimated to take between 3 and 5 hours in total.

Using this resource
This resource is designed for:
- use by mental health leads working with students aged 5 to 16.
- use by staff working in primary schools, secondary schools and special schools.
Learning outcomes
This resource addresses the following learning outcomes:
- Facilitate development of school staff, identifying critical training and ensuring that all staff can recognise and understand the process to respond to mental health concerns.
- Signpost and increase and promote awareness of resources to support staff.
- Use their knowledge to effectively communicate a positive values-based approach, and to promote openness and understanding to normalise mental health and its fluctuations throughout life.
