About this resource

This guide provides a practical self-assessment tool for managers and leaders working in FE and skills. It is designed to help leaders reflect on their own mental wellbeing, identify potential risks and take action to improve their mental health.  

The guide introduces a framework built around key pillars of wellbeing and offers a simple way to carry out a personal gap analysis. It can be used as a standalone tool or alongside other Education and Training Foundation resources. 

By encouraging leaders to reflect on and strengthen their own mental health, the resource aims to help shape positive organisational cultures where wellbeing is valued.

This resource is designed for: 

  • managers and leaders in FE and skills settings.

Learning outcomes

This resource addresses the following learning outcomes: 

  • Access and utilise tools, strategies and resources to support their own mental health so that they can look after themselves. 

  • Identify and utilise tools, strategies and resources to confidently engage staff to help promote and support their mental health and wellbeing 

  • Share simple evidence-based strategies and exercises with staff and pupils/students to help them manage their mental health and develop their own coping strategies 

  • Signpost and increase and promote awareness of resources to support staff
