Looking after our sleep
This webinar discusses the impact that sleep can have on mental health and wellbeing.
This one-hour long webinar looks at how sleep can affect mental health and wellbeing with a focus on education staff. Kerry Davies from The Sleep Charity shares a number of tips on how to improve sleep, discussing several topics including:
- why education staff experience higher levels of insomnia
- the impact sleep deprivation has on health and wellbeing
- practical strategies education staff can use to improve their sleep.
Education staff are encouraged to avoid excessive screen time before bed, establish a nighttime routine and limit their caffeine intake to improve sleeping.
The webinar also looks at sleep in more detail, particularly why we sleep, the different stages of sleep and common issues education staff may experience with sleep.

This resource is designed for:
- use by mental health leads working with students aged 5 to 19+.
Learning outcomes
This resource addresses the following learning outcomes:
- Access and utilise tools, strategies and resources to support their own mental health so that they can look after themselves.
- Identify and utilise tools, strategies and resources to confidently engage staff to help promote and support their mental health and wellbeing.
- Share simple evidence-based strategies and exercises with staff and pupils/students to help them manage their mental health and develop their own coping strategies.
