This resource is designed to help staff and parents and carers support children and young people with managing their emotions.

It contains useful tips on supporting children and young people to respond to emotional difficulties, using both self-regulation and co-regulation strategies.

It also provides specific guidance on supporting pupils with special educational needs and disabilities.

You may wish to share this guidance for staff as well to send it to parents and carers.

  • use by mental health leads working with students aged 5 to 19.
  • use by staff working in primary schools, secondary schools, colleges (sixth form and FE) and special schools.
