10 top tips for creating an LGBTQI+ inclusive school environment
A two-page leaflet for education staff, with ten clear steps for schools on how to create an LGBTQI+ inclusive school environment.
The leaflet suggests different strategies to promote knowledge and understanding of how a school environment can actively be inclusive towards members of the LGBTQI+ community.
Some of the steps included are:
- using correct pronouns
- challenging gender stereotypes and norms
- avoiding assumptions and unconscious bias
The resource is from LGBT Youth Scotland, but the content is easily adaptable for schools across the UK.

- school staff working with students
Please note that LGBT Scotland's work is aimed at young people aged 13 and up - however, much of the content in this resource would be suitable for primary schools too.
