Talk Relationships: sexualised media
A PSHE lesson resource that supports students aged 12 to 14 to examine how the media portray relationships and gender roles.

About this resource
This lesson from the NSPCC, developed in partnership with the PSHE Association, helps students aged 12 to 14 consider how gender stereotypes and sexualised content in the media can affect their views of themselves, others and relationships, and explore ways to recognise and respond to these influences in a healthy and informed way.
It forms part of the Talk Relationships series, which helps schools and colleges to deliver inclusive, age-appropriate relationships and sex education.
By taking part in this lesson, students will:
- understand what gender stereotypes are and why they can be unfair, misleading or limiting
- explore how relationships are portrayed in media and the potential impact of these portrayals
- identify how media influence can affect people’s self-image and relationships
- consider strategies to manage pressure from sexualised media content, including on social media
