Bounce Forward: energy and recovery for parents and carers

A toolkit to help parents and carers develop strategies that support self-care and recovery.

This resource introduces the concept of recovery to parents and carers. It emphasises the importance of allowing ourselves time to recover, both physically and mentally, particularly when we’re experiencing burnout. It actively promotes positive attitudes to mental health and wellbeing.

The toolkit provides a framework to help parents and carers:

  • think about the importance of recovering from burnout
  • understand the energy of emotions as being high or low and positive or negative.

By building understanding of energy and recovery and promoting strategies that support them, the toolkit aims to build parents and carers’ skills to deal with burnout in future. It also encourages parents and carers to model for their children that they value recovery.

The toolkit offers several practical activities for parents and carers, all of which promote a focus on individual experiences, preferences and strengths. The activities include reflecting on recent experiences and mapping them onto the framework provided, and identifying ways parents and carers can boost emotions associated with recovery.
