This guide supports FE leaders and managers to promote a healthy work–life balance for themselves and their teams. It shares practical tips on setting boundaries and building sustainable routines, as well as ideas for encouraging positive working practices. 

The resource also highlights the importance of role-modelling. By showing staff what balance can look like, leaders can help create a culture where wellbeing is valued and supported across FE settings. 

It includes tools, strategies and signposting to further support, making it a practical starting point for meaningful cultural change.

Learning outcomes

This resource addresses the following learning outcomes: 

  • Access and utilise tools, strategies and resources to support their own mental health so that they can look after themselves. 

  • Identify and utilise tools, strategies and resources to confidently engage staff to help promote and support their mental health and wellbeing. 

  • Share simple evidence-based strategies and exercises with staff and pupils/students to help them manage their mental health and develop their own coping strategies. 

  • Signpost and increase and promote awareness of resources to support staff.
