A lesson planning guide for teaching curriculum topics linked to race and racism, or for when a potentially traumatic racist incident occurs in the wider world.
This resource is designed to help staff plan and deliver lessons on curriculum topics linked to racism, or following the occurrence of racist and race-related events in the wider world that may cause traumatic responses in young people.
It also offers useful information on identifying the signs of trauma, setting up an anti-racism curriculum working group and actions you can take before, during and after the lesson.
Using this resource
This resource is designed for:
- use by mental health leads working with students aged 7 to 16.
- use by staff working in primary schools, secondary schools, alternative provisions and special schools.
Learning outcomes
This resource addresses the following learning outcomes:
- Facilitate development of school staff, identifying critical training and ensuring that all staff can recognise and understand the process to respond to mental health concerns.
- Develop, with others, a cross-curricular approach to promote mental health and wellbeing.
