Working with parents to support children’s learning

A comprehensive guidance report to support primary and secondary schools to work with parents.

This guidance report offers practical ways to engage with parents and carers, particularly those from disadvantaged backgrounds.

The report draws from a clear evidence-base, using research carried out by the Education Endowment Foundation and the Sutton Trust.

It is divided into 4 clear and actionable recommendations:

  • Recommendation 1: Critically review how you work with parents
  • Recommendation 2: Provide practical strategies to support learning at home
  • Recommendation 3: Tailor school communications to encourage positive dialogue about learning
  • Recommendation 4: Offer more sustained and intensive support where needed

The guidance is aimed at senior leaders but may also be useful for class teachers, governors and parents and carers.
