Responding to critical incidents in educational communities
A set of resources to help staff in schools, alternative provision settings and colleges to respond to critical incidents.
A critical incident is an event that is potentially traumatic, and affects a large part, or the whole of your educational community, rather than just one or two individuals.
Such events are likely to cause many adults and children distress and may threaten to overwhelm their capacity to cope.
However, over time many will recover, and educational communities have tremendous potential to provide precisely the sort of environment that best supports recovery.
These resources support education staff to respond to these incidents, and include:
- Guidance on existing research and evidence
- Policy template
- Lesson plans
- A presentation for an Inset session
- A presentation on working with parents and carers
Using this resource
This resource is designed for:
- use by leadership teams and other staff who might lead or support in the event of a critical incident
